With
a view to nurturing the spirit of I & E, Marymount exposes the pupils
to the Creative Classroom, the innovative Media Resource Library and
Creative Technology. THE CREATIVE CLASSROOM - A paradigm
shift from teacher to pupil ownership and leadership The
belief that the classroom is a conducive learning environment for pupils
to be involved in experimentation, independent thinking and discovery
gave birth to the Creative Classroom. One
of the most significant experiences of the Creative Classroom has been
the teacher’s discovery of what amazing innovation pupils can create
to personalize their classroom. Working in groups with creative names,
they take leadership, ownership and responsibility to set up the various
learning and values centres. With the freedom and opportunity given,
pupils transform their classroom into a vibrant and cheerful café-styled
environment with colourful tablecloth and displays of their static and
interactive displays adorning the walls and boards. The
emergence of the spirit of innovation and enterprise took them to learn
beyond the textbook. Their different senses were engaged. As they developed
their confidence and skills for self-directed inquiry and problem solving
capabilities, they felt a great sense of achievement and pride in their
creative endeavours. This
unleashing of creative minds and talents led them to share their success
with the other pupils in the school and also overseas visitors to the
school. It has motivated their schoolmates to create more creative classrooms.

- A Synergy of Learning Hubs The
Media Resource Library is the centre of creative learning and teaching
activities with the different subject departments to introduce learning
and information technologies that engage pupils’ participation of all
disciplines. It has fired the pupils’ imagination and inculcated the
spirit of innovation. The
Math and Science Learning Corners with interesting manipulatives and
challenging problem-solving activities engage the curious pupils in
experiential learning in non-threatening settings. The
News Corner has evolved into News cum Values Corner and encourages pupils
to read and reflect. The setting up of the Puppet Stage, the Story-telling
Corner and the Games Corner has encouraged the pupils to innovate and
create their own puppet shows and creative stories. Pupil
Librarians now take ownership of the library’s promotional activities
and in the process, they develop leadership, creativity and innovativeness.
