Greater Access to Intranet
-
In this issue, Contact approached the Information Technology Branch, MOE to provide answers to a question on remote intranet access. We also thank those who have written in to encourage the Editorial team.

If you have queries on any aspect of the teaching profession, would like to encourage better practices, or would simply like to give feedback on how Contact Online could improve, please submit them here. Please include your full name and school in your submission as anonymous contributions will not be accepted. The Contact Editorial Board reserves the right to exercise editorial discretion when selecting and editing articles for publication.

We look forward to reading your contributions in our next issue! Write to contact_online@moe.edu.sg today!
Thank you for doing something great like putting the magazine online and archiving past issues for easy retrieval.

MOE should also think about allowing teachers to access the Intranet and its available resources from home where we can work at our own time. This would make life for the teacher more pleasant and we would enjoy teaching even more.

Mr Bernard Jimmy Farrel Fernando
White Sands Primary School

Dear Bernard

Thank you for writing in to share your views with Contact.

We are pleased to inform you that teachers can access the MOE Intranet from home using the Virtual Private Network (VPN). Please refer to the website
http://intranet.moe.gov.sg/itb/vpn.htm for more information.

Our IT colleagues point out that the current VPN solution, which does not support Windows XP, will be replaced by a new solution that supports Windows XP. This will be ready by April 2005.

Thank you.

Editor

Thanks for the mail. Contact Online is interesting to read and user-friendly. The information is enriching and the layout very well done.

What a compliment to be referred to as a "youthful principal". I love the way you have done up the pages. Really nice.
