National Education
Admiralty Primary: National Education Village and Learning Trails
-
The NE Village and Learning Trails simulate a whole school approach to learning — learning that is experiential. The NE Village is an amalgamation of four trails in NE — Science, Arts and Healthy Lifestyle.

Why NE Village and the Learning Trails?
 Better engagement and retention
Values and attitudes acquired through experiential learning allows for better retention by pupils. Having an extended learning centre outside the classroom can better engage the students.
 Better camaraderie and bonding
With deeper understanding and better appreciation of various cultural practices, greater bonding among pupils of different ethnic groups and academic abilities can be fostered. The sense of belonging to the school and community can be enhanced too.
 Vibrant educational hub
The NE Village will promote a vibrant and dynamic educational hub for students and stakeholders to learn and exchange ideas on NE matters.
 Better presentation skills and knowledge
Students will have opportunities to serve as ambassadors to visitors, thereby enhancing their speaking ability and knowledge of NE, Science and the Arts.
 More interaction opportunities
As pupils engage in traditional games and sports, there will be more opportunities for racial integration and enhanced understanding of one another’s differences.
 Character development
Character of pupils will be developed as they learn to be responsible for the exhibits and explore the trails independently.

Collaboration with Partners
The commitment of the Parents Support Group has made it possible for the school to tap their services whenever the need arises, to ensure smooth running of the programme.

Other organisations such as the Singapore Heritage Board, the Singapore Tourism Board help with information relating to culture, while Ngee Ann Polytechnic and the Singapore Science Centre lend their expertise for the Science trail.

Uses of the Grant
Aside from using the grant to train teachers, part of it will be used for developing infrastructure for the trails and setting up a Games Museum. Other uses include designing an integrative curriculum, producing school-based texts and assessment tools and publishing NE learning resources.

Greenridge Primary: Funtastick Harmony

Funtastick Harmony — its very name suggests that Greenridge Primary plans to promote character development and to infuse National Education (NE) ideals into the school curriculum in a fun and enjoyable way.

Craftwork
Pupils enjoy making handicrafts for various festivals (see inset).

Specially tailored for all Pri 1 & Pri 2 pupils, the Funtastick Harmony programme focuses on the school's two niche areas --- NE and character development. These, in turn, are aligned with the school's vision of 'nurturing creative problem solvers who are Gracious, Responsible and Public-spirited, prepared for the challenges ahead'.

Many Routes to Harmony
Through fun activities such as story-sharing, singing, team-building, performing, art and hands-on projects, pupils will experience the joy of harmony and develop respect for the cultural practices of other races. These activities will be conducted on a weekly basis.

The school believes that the programme should equip its Pri 1 and 2 pupils with a firm foundation in NE and cultivate in them desirable character traits. The programme will also be integrated into the Civics and Moral Education and Social Studies curriculum and assembly programmes for other levels from year 2006.

Use of the Grant
The grant will be used to develop instructional materials, IT and AV resources, as well as training for staff, pupils and parents.
