This milestone in the school's development was announced by
Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Minister for Education, during his
visit to the school on 9 September.
The IP promises to deliver quality education in a seamless manner
to all RV students. Building around a guiding philosophy which
the school has come to adopt as ASK
(Attitudes, Skills and Knowledge),
the RVIP aims to cultivate a learning culture that encourages
good habits of mind, thinking skills and knowledge construction.
Staff went through a broad-based and rigorous process over a period of two years, to design its distinctive curriculum. The RVIP will be delivered through five programmes. (Click on each to read more)
| This is an integrated curriculum
that focuses on knowledge construction and caters
to the different talents and interests of the
students. |
| Students take on inquiry-based
and research-oriented work in their area of
interest and strength. This is something made
possible with the time freed from preparing
for the 'O' Level Examinations. For example,
the Junior Scientists Programme provides
students with opportunities to engage in further
scientific research in an area of their choice.
The Innovators Programme seeks to develop
students’ interest in the area of creativity
and design skills in innovation-related work
while the Mathematics Talent Programme
aims to stretch the highly talented in mathematics
through research focused work. The Explorers
Programme is a wide-ranging one enabling
students to pursue their research interests
in the humanities, arts and languages. |
| The IP allows students to
explore both breadth and depth across a range
of subjects. New subjects such as Aesthetics,
Biomedical Sciences, Computing and Economics
will help to broaden their exposure and learning
experience. When they progress to Year 5, they
can choose from a wide range of 'A' Level subjects
and sit for the 'A' Level Examinations eventually.
|
| The Pupil Development Programme,
together with the Co-Curricular Programme (see
below), has been carefully designed to support
the holistic development of RV students. Called
CHAMPS, the focus is on nurturing values and
character through core modules that include
Character Education, Health
Education, Active Citizenry,
Moral Philosophy, Physical
Education and Student Leadership
Development. |
| Specially designed to uncover talents, develop potential, build character, stretch physical and mental capacities, and cultivate a lifelong interest in healthy activities, this programme offers much scope for student-initiated activities and programmes as the school community embarks on the IP journey together.

independent inquiry and passionate learning. |
|
| |
In essence, RVIP aims to nurture independent and passionate
learners with a sense of tradition and integrity, using their
talents to serve the community. It will further encourage them
to adopt a global perspective (using their bilingualism in English
and Chinese), develop holistically and predispose them to embrace
new challenges in a changing world. |
