Teaching
Foundations Grow Stronger
The Professional
Development Continuum Model, developed jointly
by MOE and NIE, provides a structured path for teachers to obtain
advanced certification through various accredited in-service
courses at NIE.
The Structured Mentoring Programme provides
a systematic approach to the induction and mentoring of beginning
teachers. It aims to induct beginning teachers into the values,
ethos and philosophy of the education system, and ensure they
are equipped with the desired mindset, competencies and skills
for engaging and nurturing their students.
Mentors are identified and trained to help beginning teachers
in their first year of teaching. Beginning teachers will be
provided with a learning framework to assist them in the planning
for their own development. Schools are given a resource kit
to support school leaders, teachers appointed as mentors and
the beginning teachers.

The Singapore Youth Festival is an annual event organised
by MOE to celebrate the achievements of our youths in their
co-curricular activities (CCAs). It reflects MOE's belief in
the importance of a well-rounded education.
Starting in April and culminating in a month-long celebration
in July, the SYF engages students from schools across Singapore
involved in the performing arts, sports and uniformed group
CCAs. The students participate in the SYF performances and activities
as well as events leading up to the SYF. |

Leaders
in Education
Thinking Schools, Learning Nation
MOE's vision of "Thinking Schools, Learning Nation"
was first announced by then-Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong in
1997.
This vision describes a nation of thinking and committed citizens
capable of meeting the challenges of the future, and an education
system geared to the needs of the 21st century.
Thinking schools will be learning organisations in every sense,
constantly challenging assumptions, and seeking better ways
of doing things through participation, creativity and innovation.
Thinking Schools will be the cradle of thinking students as
well as thinking adults and this spirit of learning should accompany
our students even after they leave school.
A Learning Nation envisions a national culture and social environment
that promotes lifelong learning in our people. The capacity
of Singaporeans to continually learn, both for professional
development and for personal enrichment, will determine our
collective tolerance for change. |

CCA Day Motivates Pupils To Excel
Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs) are non-academic activities
that are part and parcel of the school curriculum. They are
an integral component of the holistic, well-rounded education
that we seek to provide for students. They help to nurture in
students qualities like resilience, tenacity, confidence and
perseverance, which will better prepare them to adapt and thrive
in a rapidly changing world. |

Good English Movement is about getting Singaporeans to
recognise and use standard English so that they can be understood,
not just locally but internationally as well. International
Friendship Day aims to sensitise our students towards the
geo-political realities inherent to Singapore. It is a good
opportunity to help our pupils learn about and appreciate other
cultures. The
