For those who haven’t passed the PSLE, NorthLight School has been set up. Through its unique school culture and learning environment, the emphasis is on hands-on learning and work attachments. For example, Maths concepts of quantities, weight and measures are learnt through real-life tasks like preparing food and beverage.
| PM Lee lauds the benefit of this approach. He said, “Students immediately see the relevance of what they learn and are motivated to pick up skills. Mrs Chua Yen Ching, Principal of NorthLight Secondary (NLS), explains that the vision of NLS is to be “a choice school of youth prepared for life and living… at the end of the day we need to prepare them for employment as well. Many of the students would have self-doubt and low self-esteem due to past failures; it’s critical for us to work on this aspect.” |
Mrs Chua believes in the PM’s call for levelling up society as, “Human capital is important to us and it is important to bring everyone one level higher. There will be many opportunities for the students to experience small successes and have a sense of self worth. We will help the students to discover their talents and turn their aspirations into a reality." |
