Assessments/Examinations

Primary Schools

RS who are not on the Leave Of Absence Scheme (LOA) and seeking Primary School admission will be admitted to a primary school without having to take any placement tests or interviews. After admission, schools may, in consultation with the parents, place the pupil in an appropriate stream or level.

Secondary Schools/JC/MI

RS seeking Secondary School/JC/MI admission may be required to sit for assessment tests in English, Mathematics and Mother Tongue, where appropriate. The tests are conducted by the school to assess the child's suitability for admission to the level, stream and class which the child is seeking admission to.

RS who wish to seek admission to a secondary school at the beginning of the school year in January may participate in the School Placement Exercise for Returning Singaporean (SPERS) – Secondary, conducted at the end of the year.  Candidates applying for SPERS-Sec are required to sit for papers administered by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB), indicate their preferred schools and be centrally posted by MOE. Similarly, RS who wish to participate in the School Placement Exercise for Returning Singaporean (SPERS) - Junior College and Millenia Institute are required to sit for the SPERS papers administered by Principals Academy Inc (PAI).  For more information on SPERS-Sec and SPERS_JC, please click on SPERS-Sec  and SPERS-JC.

General Information

As RS rejoin Singapore schools at different times of the school year, parents may be concerned about the performance of their children in school examinations. In this regard, the Principals have the discretion to decide whether the pupils should be exempted from examinations and on their promotion to the next level on a case-by-case basis.
