School Placement Overview - Primary and Secondary Returning Singaporeans (RS) may seek admission to our schools at anytime of the year. RS are, however, encouraged to seek admission in the first half of the year, as the school year is from January to November each year. Singaporeans who had been studying in Singapore are encouraged to apply for Leave of Absence (LOA), for easier transition back to the schools. RS who do not have a place in a school under LOA may either approach MOE for general school placement or participate in the special school placement exercises. Alternatively RS may also approach any school of their choice directly to seek admission. RS seeking admission into primary levels or who miss the annual Primary One Registration Exercise can approach their primary schools of choice directly. No admission tests are required and admission is based on the availability of vacancies. This admission route is generally available throughout the year, subject to school operations, and offers a degree of flexibility to overseas Singaporeans who can only return at specific timings in the year. Alternatively, parents can approach MOE to facilitate their school admission by completing an online application form available at http://www.moe.gov.sg/esp/eduinfo. Subject to available vacancies, applicants are generally placed into schools of their choice or appropriate schools near their homes. For detailed application procedure and more information, please refer to the Primary - General School Placement . Secondary school admission in Singapore is merit-based. As such, RS seeking admission into secondary levels may be required to sit for admission tests to determine, for instance, the academic streams e.g. Express, Normal (Academic), Normal (Technical) most appropriate for them. RS seeking admission can directly approach their secondary schools of choice, which would assess them holistically. This admission route is generally available throughout the year, subject to school operations, and offers a degree of flexibility to overseas Singaporeans who can only return at certain times during the year. Alternatively, parents can approach MOE to facilitate their school admission by completing an online application form available at http://www.moe.gov.sg/esp/eduinfo. Applicants may be asked to sit for school-based admission tests and admission is subject to school-based assessment and the availability of vacancies. For detailed application procedure and more information, please refer to the Secondary – General School Placement . RS who wish to pursue their post secondary education may consider several options as follows:- (a) Junior College(JC)/Millennia Institute (MI) offering the GCE “A” Level course Admission to Junior College and Millennia Institute RS who wish to pursue the pre-university course in a JC/MI should take note that the pre-university course is an intensive and rigorous course and only those who have been assessed to be suitable for the course will be offered a place. RS who do not qualify for the pre-university course may choose to consider other post secondary options such as admission to Polytechnics, Institute of Education or Privately Funded Schools. RS seeking admission to a pre-university course may choose to participate in a special placement exercise such as the Direct School Admission Exercise (DSA) – JC and the School Placement Exercise for Returning Singaporeans - Junior College and Millennia Institute (SPERS-JC/MI).
